Workshops
What story do you have waiting to be told?
Join others in a four-week session and learn how to discover, craft, and convert your unique life experience into an oral story that you'll tell before a live audience. The benefits to you—and your audience—may surprise you.
Leading the workshops is author Jonathan Scott, who has been teaching personal storytelling since 2018.
Class size is limited to 10 participants. This way each student gets the right amount of guidance and attention, but can also receive constructive feedback from a variety of his or her fellow students.
No prior experience in public speaking or writing is required. What is required is a desire to share, an willingness to strive for honesty and authenticity, and an ability to listen to others with an open mind and open heart.
Student feedback:
"I want to thank you from the bottom of my pea-pickin’ lil heart for being such an excellent teacher, guide, motivator, and friend. I learned a tremendous amount, and I could not have done that without you! You made me give my best, because your character causes one to want to do the best." (Chris Spalding)
"Thank you for your critical part facilitating this adventure!" (Susan Miles)
"Thanks for your supportive nature and for your kind words about my story. You’re terrific at what you do!" (Linda Christenson)
"I couldn't have done it without the encouragement and support you gave me, as well as my classmates. You are a great teacher, gently and wisely guiding your students to shape their stories. I'll be back." (Velta Zegel)
"For some. the stories just flowed out. For others they were a release of long-held emotion. Some of us were able to bring memories to life or express messages to be shared with others. It was such a rewarding experience to be with you and the group." (Joyce Keller)
Goals
-
1Find the right story for you
Everyone has stories. Sometimes they can't wait to be told, others are difficult to find.
For many of us, it takes time and guidance to discover where to start.
In class you'll learn tips and methods to unlock your best stories.
Sometimes they might surprise you.
-
2Learn how to write it
If you find it hard to sit down and write, don't be intimidated. The rules of oral storytelling are different from written stories. We don't sweat grammar and spelling.
We work through several drafts (if necessary) with positive guidance and feedback.
-
3Learn how to tell it
Sharing stories lives in front of an audience can be thrilling.
These stories happened to you and are easier to tell than you might think.
And the audience is always on your side.
